ABOUT DON THORPE
I played the drums professionally from the 50's to the 70's. During the late 50's I was in several of the U.S. army marching bands, and associated with some of the finest drummers of that time. I've played big band Swing, combo Jazz, Rock & Roll, and Country. I've even played for Greek weddings and Octoberfest. In the 70's I got married and busy supporting a family as a professional photographer, so I put the drums more or less in "moth-balls" until I played a couple of years with an Elvis impersonator when my children were teenagers. Now I play for several bands, Big Band era music, Classic Rock and some Country. Once in a while I get lucky and play with a Jazz group, Just to give you some perspective, I am in my 80's. So, yes, playing the drums keeps you young.
